Biyanibazar border haat in limbo

The third border hut of Sylhet district has not been opened even after taking all the preparations at the Bangladesh-India border in Muriya of Biyanibazar in the Sylhet district. No one has an answer as to why the haat has not been opened even after completing all kinds of administrative work for this purpose.
Afsana Taslim, UNO of Bianibazar said that the proposal was sent after checking all possibilities. But after that the shop did not start again.
Bangladesh-India joint management committee meetings have been held in the no-man’s land between the border pillar and main pillar (1363-1364) in Muria area for the establishment of border huts.
A meeting held in 2020 was led by the then Additional District Magistrate of Sylhet Mohammad Abul Kalam on behalf of the Bangladesh team. On the other hand, a delegation of 10 members led by the Additional District Magistrate of India’s Karimganj district participated.
The concerned said that the buyers and sellers of border haat were supposed to be issued familiar cards by the district administration for buying and selling at the border haat, it was decided to keep two gates on both sides of the haat to enter the haat.
Both countries reached a consensus to ensure watch towers, public toilets and security systems. The Indian authorities also started some work on the infrastructure development of the border haat.
The border bazaar was supposed to sell clothes, soaps, spices, baby items, household items, oil, ghee, mosquito coils, plastic table-chairs, ceramics and cosmetics.
Sylhet district administration sources said that an acre of 17th century land has been identified in the no-man’s land for setting up border huts. To further strengthen the relationship between Bangladesh and India, all the official processes for opening the third border haat of Sylhet district in the border areas of both the countries were completed.
All kinds of work at the administrative level were also completed in the meeting with the aim of establishing a border market next to the main pillar of both countries (1363-1364) at the Bianibazar border. It is also known that all the files of the Border Hut have been sent to the Ministry of Commerce and Home Affairs.
