Tourist boat torched in Rangamati

News Desk :
A tourist boat was set ablaze for extortion in the Kaindarmukh area of Rangamati at noon on Friday.

There were six tourists, hailing from Chandpur, on the boat. They had come from Sajek to Rangamati on Thursday.

Kotwali police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ariful Amin said he was on the spot along with his team, adding that he would give details later.

The tourists said five armed men snatched everyone’s mobile phone when they reached the Kaindarmukh area in the morning on their way to Sublong Jharna and then forced them to get off the boat.

The boat driver, Gias, said: “After dropping off the tourists, they took me to a nearby hillock along with the boat and set it on fire. Later they dropped me off on another hillock and left the spot.”

“There were five of them with weapons. They said that no tourist boat should go further until extortion money is paid. Later the tourists were brought to Rangamati.”
