Resign by Nov 10: IAB to govt

Staff Reporter  :
Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) has given an ultimatum to the government to resign by November 10 by handing over power to a national government comprising registered and representative political parties.

AIB Amir Mufti Syed Mohammad Rezaul Karim on Friday made this announcement at a mammoth rally held on Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital Dhaka where tens of thousands of leaders and workers of the party gathered.

Addressing his party men, he said, “Within the next 10th of November, the government must have to resign, dissolve the National Parliament, and transfer power to a national government formed under the coordination of all political parties involved in the ongoing movement.”

He also called upon the incumbent government to release all BNP leaders who were incarcerated for political reason within one week and the President himself should take initiative for dialogue with all political parties.

“If the demands are not met, we will announce tougher programme with the political parties now carrying out their movement to oust the government,” the Amir said.

“In support of the demand for establishing voting rights and ouster of the illegal government, I am announcing my support for a peaceful programme with all the opposition parties, including BNP,” he said.

He also said, “Country’s people want a free and fair election.

This is not the year of 2014 and 2018. It is the year of 2024. We will topple Sheikh Hasina from power thorough movement with all right and left wing political parties.”

Emphasising the free and fair poll, he said, “We don’t want any bloodshed.

We want free and fair election. We want to restore people’s voting and fundamental rights. People are ready to go to jail to realise their demands.

This government wants to stay in power in the name of the spirit of liberation War. But free and fair election is not possible under the government.”

AIB Secretary General Mowlana Yunus Ahmad said that the government has failed to control the prices of all essentials and the ordinary people are suffering the worst under the soaring prices of commodities.

“The prices of all items including rice, lentil and oil have increased exorbitantly.

On the other hand, the prices of bullets and tear shells have reduced. We’ll carry out our movement till our demands are met,” he said.

Party’s Joint Secretary General Mowlana Gazi Ataur Rahman said, “The country is under political and economic crisis.

This crisis was created through the 15th amendment of the Constitution.

The government has consolidated its power to stay in the chair through it. But, the people are ready to bid farewell to the government.”

Before this, leaders and activists of the party started gathering on the ground of Suhrawardy Udyan since Friday morning.
