Bhairab tea shopkeeper dies of tear gas fumes

On the first day of the siege programme called by BNP led opposition alliance, a tea shopkeeper Md. Ashiq Mia (55) died after being injured by police tear shells in the port town Bhairab on Tuesday.

Ashiq died while undergoing treatment at Zahurul Islam Medical College Hospital in Bajitpur on Tuesday night at 9.30 pm. He was the son of Qadir Mia of Gachtalaghat area of Bhairab town.

According to locals, every day, Ashiq Mia operated his tea shop located near his home along the roadside in the Gachtalaghat area.

Suddenly, during a clash between BNP and Awami League, the police fired tear gas to quell the situation.

At that moment, Ashiq Mia suffered severe injuries due to the excessive gas exposure.

Additional SP (Admin &Finance) Md. Moataque Sarker confirmed Ashiq Mia’s death. However, the exact cause of his death, whether it was due to tear gas exposure, will be determined from the doctor’s report.
