Vehicles set ablaze in Dhaka, N’ganj, Feni, Netrakona, Ctg, Barguna

Miscreants set vehicles on fire in different parts of Dhaka city, Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj, Feni, Netrokona, Chattogram and Barguna on Thursday, on the last day of the three-day blockade enforced by BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and their allies.

Police rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control and detained four people from the Narayanganj.

Witnesses said, miscreants set a bus of “Poristhan Paribahan” on fire in Uttara’s Azampur area in Dhaka at 7:04am.

A Moumita Paribahan passenger bus was set on fire in the Beribandh area of Mohammadpur.

The arsonists torched the vehicle parked in front of the Bhanga Mosque around 4:45 am on Thursday, said Lima Khanam of the Fire Service Control Room.

Meanwhile, a group of miscreants set a private car on fire in Dhaka Education Board area at 4:45am.

Narayanganj: Miscreants also set a cotton-carrying truck on fire at 6:40am at Kanchan Road in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj district.
Police rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control and detained four people from Narayanganj.

The incident took place in the Kushab area of Rupganj upazila on Thursday morning. The identities of the detainees were not revealed immediately.

According to police and local sources, 40-50 activists led by the former vice-presidents of the District Chhatra Dal unit, Sultan Mahmud, and Masudur Rahman, stopped a covered van and set it on fire.

Later, they vandalized another wood-loaded truck and set it on fire as well.

After receiving the information, the police went to the spot. At that time, the activists threw bricks at the police.

Police fired shotguns to disperse the agitators. Several people were injured at that time. However, their names are not known.

Confirming the matter, District Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Abir Hossain said: “In the morning, a group of 40-50 people blocked the road and vandalized a cotton-laden pickup van and a truck and set them on fire. At that time, the police dispersed them by shooting at them.”

Feni: Wasi Azad, warehouse inspector of Feni Fire Service and Civil Defence Station, said: “We rushed to the spot and doused the fire at 4:20am. The front of the truck was burnt in the fire.”

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Feni Model Police Station Shahidul Islam Chowdhury said: “Police rushed to the spot and assisted the fire service to douse the blaze.

Appropriate legal action will be taken in this regard.”
Superintendent of Police (SP) Golam Mostafa Russell said traffic movement was normal on the third day of the blockade.

Netrokona: A group of unidentified assailants set fire to two passenger buses parked at Netrokona’s Kendua Bus Stand on the last day of the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami’s nationwide blockade.

Chittagong: The bus of “AB Travels” came under arson attack in Bangram Gana Bidyalaya area along with Chittagong-Kaptai road in the Rangunia upazila, said Zahedur Rahman, station leader of the Rangunia Fire Service Station. The incident took place around 4am.

Chandan Kumar Chakraborty, officer-in-charge of Rangunia Police Station, also confirmed the incident.

The Fire Service & Civil Defence received a total of 34 reports of arson attacks, torching 31 vehicles during the BNP-announced three-day blockade starting from 6am on Tuesday (31 October).
