Police, BNP men clash in Dhaka’s Kakrail area, police box set on fire
UNB, Dhaka :
A chase and counter-chase between police and BNP leaders, activists occurred in Dhaka’s Kakrail area today, creating panic among people.
Witnesses said leaders and activists of BNP brought out a procession in the Kakrail area and started going towards InterContinental hotel around 1 pm.
At one stage, police obstructed them, and BNP leaders, activists started throwing brick chips at the law enforcers.
Later, police fired rubber bullets, used sound grenades and tear gas shells to disperse them.
The BNP men also set a police box on fire in front of Kakrail Church at 1:10 pm and staged a demonstration by burning a tyre near Kakrail Mosque.
During the clash, three-four motorbikes and two microbuses were set on fire in front of the Judges’ Residence Complex and Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) in Kakrail.
Meanwhile, a man was injured when BNP men reportedly attacked him, suspecting him to be a supporter of Awami League in the Kakrail area around 12:45 pm.
Earlier in the day, miscreants vandalised three vehicles in Kakrail area.
The grand rally of BNP began in front of its Nayapaltan central office with the participation of thousands of leaders and activists of the party and its associate bodies to press home their one-point demand for holding the upcoming national election under a non-party government.
