Stray violence marks last day of hartal

The last day of 36-hour nationwide hartal alongside a nonstop blockade enforced by the BNP led 20-party alliance protesting the arrest of its leaders and activists and the government’s move to increase power tariff passed amid stray incidents of violence and petrol bomb attacks on Monday.
The shutdown began at 6am on Sunday and ended at 6 PM Monday.
No procession or picketing was seen in support of the hartal in the capital. Several homemade bombs were blasted around the city, but there was no report of causality. The death toll rose to 35 in the first 21 days of blockade.

In Bogra, a bus and a truck were set afire by the arsonists at Bazardighi area under Dupchanchia upazila around 9 pm Thursday. In Shibganj upazila, pickets vandalized a truck with brick chips and then set it ablaze at Mokamtola Bandar in the morning. On information, a fire-fighting unit rushed to the spot and doused the fire.
In Chapainawabganj, several vehicles were vandalized in Santirmor area of the district town around 9am. Police arrested 15 BNP-Jamaat activists from the spot. In Satkhira, 20 activists of the BNP-led 20-party alliance were arrested from different places of the district.

The victim identified as Najmul Islam, son of Yunus Promanik from Shahebgar village in Kushtia district, was admitted to sadar hospital from where he was transferred to the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
A case was filed against 35 unknown people in this connection.
