5 workers burnt in N’ganj re-rolling mill explosion

An explosion occurred in a re-rolling factory at Siddhirganj upazila in Narayanganj on Saturday morning (October 14), leaving five employees of the mill critically burnt.

The incident took place at Sharmin Steel Re-rolling Mill in Godnail Sayedpara area of the upazila.

The injured persons have been identified as Md Saiful Islam, 30, Md Iqbal Hossain, 25, Mohammad Mozammel Haque, 30, Md Jakaria, 20, and Md Shariful Islam, 32.

They are now undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Rafiqul Islam, a colleague of the injured, said, “A gas metre exploded early Saturday when they were working, leaving five of them critically injured.

Later, they were admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery hospital.

Toriqul Islam, resident surgeon of the hospital said, “Victim Mozammel was admitted to the hospital with 100 percent burn injuries, Saiful with 60 percent, Iqbal with 30 percent, Shariful with 57 percent and Jakaria with 35 percent.
