Millions sufferer due to unplanned Chikney sluice gate in Nandail

Chikney sluice gate on the Nandail Tarail upazila Border has now become a problem for lakhs of people.

The sluice gate is located in konavawal a border village of Tarail and Nandail upazila on the Betai River which is known as chikney sluice gate.

Even if it rains a little some nearby villages Kalapara, Borail Uluhati, Bonati Aoutergai Outpara, Bilvedera, Purbo Darilla, Kandiura, Pachdarilla, Ponkor hati Rajgati, Gangail and other villages of the people’s crops, roads, schools, mosques, and graveyards and other homes were submerged.

The people of these areas have suffered heavy losses due to the rains of the last two days.

The farmers of tbese areas said, we had a dream about the Aman crops but that dream remained a dream today. How will we proceed in the coming days?

There will be an extreme shortage of cattle food. The affected people of these areas have demanded to break the sluice gate very soon and build a bridge to higher authorities.

Retired health inspector of khalapara village Alhaj Maiz Uddin miah said due to the construction of this sluice gate, the reservoir is formed with little rain. As the water flows slowly it takse the form of a terrible flood.

According to the Upazila Agriculture office of Nandail, Aman paddy was planted on 22410 hectares of land in the current season, 12000 hectares have been submerged in the flood totally.

On the other hand according to the fisheries office 550 hectares of fish farms have been submerged under water Due to the flood, 900 metric tons of fish came out of it the ponds and water bodies.
