5.3 magnitude earthquake jolts Dhaka

An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale jolted the entire country including the capital Dhaka on Monday evening. No casualty was reported immediately.
According to the meteorological department, the epicentre of the quake was the state of Meghalaya in India. Bangladesh felt the tremor at 6:47 pm.
The country experienced three more jolts in September.
The last one was felt on September 17, with a magnitude of 4.2 and the epicenter was in Tangail, only 59 kilometres north-west of the burgeoning capital Dhaka.
Earlier, another earthquake was felt in Sylhet on 11 September and the epicentre of that quake was the India-Myanmar border area.
Besides, on 9 September another tremor was felt with the epicentre located in the Kachhar area in Assam of India.
Apart from these, Bangladesh felt the two jolts in August 14 and 29 and the epicentres were in Sylhet and Kanaighat area of the Bangladesh-India border respectively.
Meteorological department said that Bangladesh has been experiencing mild earthquakes in the recent times and a matter of apprehension.
