Legal action for false HSC leak claims: Milon

Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon has warned that legal action will be taken against anyone spreading misleading information about HSC and equivalent examination question paper leaks on social media or other platforms.

The government will not tolerate misinformation regarding public examinations, he said on Sunday while speaking at a meeting with officers-in-charge of examination centres under the Sylhet Education Board, including madrasa and technical education boards in the Sylhet region, ahead of the 2026 HSC and equivalent examinations.

The minister said police would take action under the law against anyone who circulates false claims of question paper leaks or cheating when no such incident has occurred.

He said the Public Examinations Act, 1980 has been amended to better address examination-related irregularities, adding that the amendment bill was scheduled to be placed in Parliament later on Sunday.
According to Milon, the revised law aims to make anti-cheating provisions more effective and relevant to current needs.

Police will use body-worn cameras during the examinations to prevent irregularities, maintain discipline and strengthen monitoring, he said.

Milon also urged education boards to focus not only on conducting examinations but also on improving the overall quality of education.

“The primary responsibility of education boards is to improve educational standards. Boards must move beyond routine administrative functions and play a more effective role in enhancing the quality of education,” he said.

Emphasising the importance of teacher development, Milon said competent teachers are essential for producing quality students.

He said the government has taken steps to provide teachers with proper training and has allocated sufficient funds in the budget for that purpose.

The meeting was chaired by Sylhet Education Board Chairman Prof Md Anwar Hossain Chowdhury.

Sylhet City Corporation Administrator Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury, Sylhet Education Board Secretary Chowdhury Mamun Akbar, BNP National Executive Committee Joint Organising Secretary Miftah Ahmed Siddiqui, representatives of the local administration and heads of examination centres also attended the meeting.
