Is the clash between UNO and AL men just another grim political turmoil?
IN a disturbing turn of events, Gazipur’s Kaliganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Azizur Rahman, along with several Ansar members, found themselves on the receiving end of a violent assault by a group of Awami League activists.
What was the reason behind this shocking incident? They had dared to stand up against the unlawful parking of vehicles on the premises of the upazila parishad.
This unsettling clash between the administration and members of the ruling party is just another grim chapter in the ongoing political turmoil gripping our nation.
Regrettably, these clashes between the ruling Awami League members, the police force, and government bureaucrats have become increasingly common in certain areas.
What is even more concerning is that the conflict of interest among government officials and the ruling party appears to have little to do with protecting the interests of the people or serving the citizens.
Instead, it seems to be driven by a desire to flex their muscles and exert bureaucratic power.
One cannot help but notice that many of the recruited government officials were once loyal party members who allegedly cast their votes in the last national elections, often in the absence of a genuine mandate and mass support from the people.
This raises questions about their loyalty to the principles of democracy and their impartiality in serving the public.
A recent and particularly troubling incident that has captured the public’s attention is the tripartite showdown involving an administrative cadre officer, a police officer, and members of the Chhatra League, the student wing of the Awami League.
These incidents are indicative of a deeply concerning trend in our political landscape.
Democracy, which should be a beacon of hope and accountability, is increasingly coming under siege.
The principles of good governance, transparency, and rule of law appear to be eroding in the face of power struggles and political brinkmanship.
It is crucial that we, as responsible citizens, demand an end to this culture of violence and intimidation that has crept into our political system.
We must insist on accountability for those responsible for these reprehensible acts and call for a return to a politics that prioritizes the welfare of the people over personal power and partisan interests.
