12 lakh SSC scripts seek rechecking
More than 12 lakh SSC answer scripts have been submitted for rechecking this year, prompting the government to introduce specific criteria to determine which papers should be re-evaluated, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said on Monday.
The government has moved to tighten the SSC rechecking process after receiving more than 12 lakh applications this year, with Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said it would not be practically possible to re-evaluate such a large number of answer scripts.
Speaking to reporter, Milon said around 20 lakh students had appeared for the SSC examinations, making it necessary to establish specific criteria for re-evaluation.
“We need specific criteria for re-evaluation,” he said, adding that processing all the applications could also delay college admissions.
Under the proposed system, authorities will initially examine the tabulation sheets and scrutiny records of applications already submitted. Answer scripts showing serious errors or inconsistencies will then be prioritised for re-evaluation, the minister said.
The new policy will specify which types of answer scripts can be rechecked and which applications will not be accepted.
The process will also examine whether examiners followed proper evaluation procedures and whether there were unusual discrepancies in marks, Milon said.
Examiners found to have assessed scripts improperly may be given additional training, he added.
The re-evaluation facility was introduced through an amendment to the Public Examinations (Offences) Act, 1980.
The unusually high number of applications this year has prompted the government to establish clearer criteria governing the use of the facility.
