BD Cricket team off to India

Bangladesh Cricket team left the city on Wednesday for India to take part in the ICC World Cup, which is scheduled to be held at the different venues across India.

The gala extravaganza will start from October 5 and will come to an end on November 19.

All the matches will be 50-over-a-side affairs.

A total of ten teams will take part in the round-robin league basis first phase of the most prestigious cricket competition of the whole world.

Top team will take on fourth-place achiever team in the first semi-final, while the second-place finisher team will face the third-place achiever team in the second semifinal.

The winners of the two semi-finals will face each other in the final.

The ten teams, which will compete in the most exciting cricket meet of the world, are : England, New Zealand, India Pakistan, Bangladesh, South Africa, Australia, Afghanistan, Netherlands and Sri Lanka.

The first eight teams of the list will directly play in the ICC World Cup.

On the other hand, Netherlands and Sri Lanka have qualified for the upcoming World Cup after playing in the ICC World Cup qualifiers, which concluded recently.

It may be mentioned that West Indies for the first time failed to play in the ICC World Cup.

The ICC World Cup had started since 1975 and West Indies took part in the every World Cup.

Defending champions England will face New Zealand in the inaugural match of the ICC World Cup at Ahmedabad on October 5.

Bangladesh will take on Afghanistan in their first match of the World Cup at Dharamshala in Himachal Province on October 7.

Before this match, Bangladesh will play two warm-up matches.

Bangladesh will face Sri Lanka in the first warm-up match at Guwahati on September 29.

The Tigers will meet England in the second warm-up match at the same venue on October 2.

Team Director of Bangladesh Cricket squad Khaled Mahmud Sujon said, ” Our team have experienced players and also youngsters.

Our senior players said, ‘this is the best time to do something’.

I also think this is our high time.”

Sujon said, ” When Bangladesh Cricket team play in a match all the cricket lovers of the country take part in the match.

I hope the 16 crore people will have faith upon our team.”

Meanwhile, The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced on September 26 the 15-member Bangladesh Cricket squad for the imminent ICC World Cup.

Bangladesh squad : Shakib Al Hasan (Captain), Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Mahmudullah Riyad, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Shoriful Islam, Nasum Ahmed, Mahedi Hasan Miraz and Tanzim Hasan Sakib.
