DU student dies falling off Bijoy Ekattor Hall

DU Correspondent :
A Dhaka University (DU) student died after falling from the university’s ‘Bijoy Ekattor Hall’ early Wednesday.

Deceased Firoz Kazi (22), was a student of Chinese Language and Culture Department of Institute of Modern Languages (IML). He hailed from Gopalganj district.

He was a student of 2019-20 academic year and a resident of Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall of the university.

Witnesses said no injury marks were found on his body.

However, a suicide note was found on his reading table in which Firoz said, “he is solely responsible for his death.”

Seeing his body lying on the ground floor, fellow students rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where on-duty doctors declared him dead.

One student said, “It was not clear yet whether Firoz ‘committed suicide’ or carelessly slipped down from the Bijoy Ekattor Hall. There were no injury marks on his body.”

According to the eyewitnesses, Firoz might have fallen from the sixth or seventh floor of the hall.

Dr Mohammad Bellal Hossain, Provost of Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall, said, “The evidence so far we have collected is a suicide note.

Before the incident, he left his mobile phone, wallet and suicide note in the room.”
