Divn Book Fair ends in Rajshahi

A week-long divisional Book Fair jointly hosted by the Commissioner office of Rajshahi division and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs at Rajshahi College playground ended here Friday with the call for encouraging people, especially children to develop reading books from an early age.

Many publishers had set up 60 stalls in the fair displaying various types of books. The closing ceremony was marked by giving crests to three best stalls and certificates and prizes to winners of different competitions.

With Additional Commissioner Dr Mokshed Ali in the chair, the closing ceremony was addressed by Principal of Rajshahi College Prof Abdul Khaleque, Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi division Imtiaz Hossain and Deputy Commissioner Shamim Ahmed.

In his remarks, Prof Abdul Khaleque said there is no alternative to book reading to build Smart Bangladesh as only book reading can enlighten people and make them perfect.

He also said books help people to acquire knowledge about the outside world, stressing the need for reaching books at the doorsteps of the readers to encourage them to read.

Additional Commissioner Imtiaz Hossain said books enlighten people — easy and creative books are essential for the mental development of children, adding books help people to acquire knowledge about the outside world.
