Sylhet Zilla Parished Chairman Lutfur Rahman’s 2nd death anniversary has been celebrated. On this occasion, a discussion meeting and doa mahfil was held on the initiative of Sylhet Zilla Parishad in Zilla Parishad hall on Saturday.

Workshop on formulation of annual plan at district level
of agricultural development project in Sylhet
A district workshop on annual planning has been held at the district level under the agricultural development project of Sylhet region through modern technology. Sylhet divisional commissioner Abu Ahmad Siddiqui NDC was present as the chief guest at the workshop organized by Agriculture Extension Directorate Khamar Bari Dhaka Division, Agricultural Development Project of Sylhet region through modern technology at Dhopadighir side office of Agriculture Extension Directorate of the city on Saturday (September 2).
He said in his speech, agriculture is the backbone of national development and progress. Agriculture is the main life force of Bangladesh economy. Agriculture plays an important role in the prosperity of large communities by increasing productivity and income and creating employment in rural areas. The agricultural sector i.e. crops, fisheries, livestock and forestry contributes significantly to the country’s GDP, providing employment to about 40 percent of the labor force and providing the main raw materials for agro-based industries. Agriculture is a special sector of social activity that is closely related to important issues such as food and nutrition security, income generation and poverty reduction. Apart from this, agriculture is a source of various types of consumer goods, especially goods based on consumer market demand in rural areas. Therefore, to reduce rural poverty, development of agriculture sector and acceleration of its growth is essential.
He called on the officials related to agriculture to work with sincerity from their respective positions for the national development and progress of the country. Agriculture Extension Directorate Sylhet Region Sylhet Additional Director Agriculturist Md. Mosharraf Hossain Khan presented the keynote at the workshop under the direction of Abdul Mannan, Sylhet Project Monitoring Officer, Agronomist Md Rakib Uddin, Project Director of Sylhet Region Agricultural Development Project through modern technology.As a special guest, the Deputy Secretary of the Extension Department of the Ministry of Agriculture Dr. Mohammad Munsoor Alam Khan. Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Directorate Sylhet Agronomist Mohammad Khair Uddin Mollah delivered the welcome speech.
4 held for beating police for blocking TikTok
A policeman was beaten up in the airport area of Sylhet for preventing him from making a TikTok video. The name of the injured policeman is Nayan Chandra Pardar. The incident took place at Sylhet Osmani International Airport on Friday (September 1) evening.
Nayan Chandra, who was injured in the incident, filed a case at the airport police station as a plaintiff, and the police arrested four youths at night. The arrested are Jubel (25), Jewel (36) and Jumel (21) son of Saruj Ali of Gargari area of Jagannathpur Upazila and Abzal (19) son of Sundar Ali of Salia village of Viswanath Upazila.
Renovation of Sultanate Mosque
An initiative has been taken to renovate the nearly seven hundred year old mosque of Osmanpur in Sylhet known as ‘Gaybi Mosque’ of the Sultanate period. A discussion meeting of the Village Panchayat, Mosque Management Committee was held on Friday at Bad Juma Masjid premises with internationally renowned architects in order to renovate the Ghaibi Mosque in Usmanpur village of Osmani Nagar Upazila, which is about 27 km from Sylhet city.
Chairman of Osman Union Parishad and President of Usmanpur Ghebi Mosque Management Committee Wali Ullah Badrul, the main speaker in the speech of the president of the association of architects Arc-Asia and Dean of Environmental Science and Design Department of University of Asia Pacific, internationally renowned architect Professor Dr. Abu Saeed M. Ahmed said, there are 47 mosques of the Sultanate period in Bangladesh, among which the Osmanpur mosque in Sylhet is one of them. Many of the country’s Sultanate-era mosques have been demolished for expansion. But the people of Osmanpur village accepted a lot of hardships and maintained the old mosque by making small renovations for the sake of preserving the tradition. An architecture is the measure of the civilization of that area. By sustaining the nearly seven hundred year old mosque, the people of Osmanpur have confirmed their identity as the inheritors of an advanced civilization. It is possible to sustain this mosque for several hundred more years if it is renovated following the ancient architectural style. Besides, if modern technology and architecture are used with ancient architecture, it is possible to increase the facilities according to the needs of the local residents in using the mosque.
In the meeting, some documentaries related to restoring the old appearance by renovating various ancient dilapidated mosques of the country were shown through the projector. In the president’s speech, Wali Ullah Badrul, chairman of Usman Union Parishad and president of Usman Ghaibi Mosque management committee, said that the speech of internationally renowned architects has inspired us. Locals will take further measures to renovate the mosque while maintaining the tradition and keeping in mind the increase in modern facilities.
