A case was filed against a Thakurgaon man for spreading propaganda on the social media against BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
With a view to defaming the BNP leader, a Facebook post was circulated using the fabricated image of a fake cheque of the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund using Fakhrul’s name.
Mehedi Hasan, a man of Bajidpur village of Pirganj upazila of Rangpur district spread the propaganda on his Facebook page.
In his post, Mehedi Hasan mentioned that Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has gone to Singapore for treatment with a donation of Tk50,00,000 from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.
Advocate Joynal Abedin, General Secretary of Thakurgaon Zila Ainjibi Samity (District Lawyer Association) and district unit BNP leader, filed the case with Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court against the propagandist Mehedi Hasan. As the matter came to the notice of Mirza Fakhrul, he simply rejected the incident describing it as dirty.
Asked about the authenticity of the cheque, Hasan Jahid Tusher, Deputy-Press Secretary to the Prime Ministers’ Office (PMO), confirmed that the news of giving cheque to the BNP leader was not true.
