Online trapping: Youth held over US Embassy GD

Police have arrested a young man named Samir, 20, from Khulna after investigating a case filed by the US Embassy to Bangladesh.

More than 150 nude pictures of at least 30 girls from three countries, including the United States have been recovered from his mobile phone and laptop.

Investigation sources said Samir, a young man, developed relationships with these girls on the online social networking app Discord.

Then he collected their naked pictures by trapping them.

Samir, a resident of Newmarket area of Sonadanga Police Station in Khulna city, is a second year computer science student of an engineering university in Rajshahi.

Members of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested him from his residence on August 21.

Later, with the permission of the court, he was taken on remand for two days and interrogated.

Samir was sent to jail on Saturday on the order of the court.
