Nangalkot OC withdrawn for seeking votes for finance minister

Cumilla’s Nangalkot Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) has been withdrawn for requesting to re-elect Finance Minister and Cumilla-10 lawmaker AHM Mustafa Kamal during a discussion observing the National Mourning Day.
Md Faruk Hossain was attached to Cumilla District Police Lines after withdrawal on Thursday evening through an office order signed by Cumilla Superintendent of Police Abdul Mannan.
Debashish Chowdhury has been made new OC of Nangalkot Police Station. He was the OC at Cumilla Sadar South Model Police Station.
Police and local sources said Md Faruk Hossain joined as OC at Nangalkot Police Station on November 16, 2021.
Nangalkot upazila administration organised a discussion on the National Mourning Day at the upazila parishad auditorium in the early afternoon on August 15.
While speaking at the discussion, Md Faruk Hossain said, “I have a request to you from my heart. Because the finance minister has made so much progress in Nangalkot.”
He said, “Many places in Nangalkot did not even have roads, there was no electricity.
When the finance minister came to power, he won your hearts and brought you to the pinnacle of development. He did everything for you.”
A video footage of OC Faruk Hossain’s remarks spread in the Facebook. OC Faruk is heard calling upon the people of Nangalkot upazila to re-elect Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal en masse.
It led to talks and criticisms. Many have questioned whether an could make such a request being a government official.
In such a situation, he has been withdrawn and attached to the Cumilla District Police Lines.
Nangalkot’s Upazila Parishad Chairman Shamsuddin Kalu, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Raihan Mehbub, Upazila Vice Chairman Abu Yushup, Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Nazrul Islam were also present at the discussion.
