Businessman fined for sand extracting from Kuakata

Noor Mohammad (45), owner of a dredger has been fined Tk 1 lakh for lifting sand from Kuakata sea beach area of Patuakhali district with a dredger.

Kalapara Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and executive magistrate Kowshik Ahmed imposed fines seized the dredger machine on early Saturday.

It was known that sand was lifting from the sea near the Sardar Market adjacent to Zero Point of Kuakata beach was cut by dredger and filled in Geotube.

On receiving the news, the Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Kowshik Ahmed rushed to the spot stopped cutting sand for filling low lands and forming mobile courts imposing fine seized the dredger.

Locals said that Sardar Market authorities lifting sand from the beach in cooperation with dredger businessman Noor Mohammad to save the market from collapse.
