3 prisoners die at DMCH in a day

Three inmates of Dhaka Central Prison in Keraniganj died while receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Abul Bashar, 58, Abdul Qaiyum, 62, and Shahadat Hossain, 48.
Abul Bashar was brought to the DMCH emergency department at around 8:00am on Sunday, while Abdul Qaiyum was brought at around 9:30am. Doctors examined both men and declared them dead on arrival. Shahadat Hossain, who had been undergoing treatment at the hospital, died later that morning.

Inspector Md Habibur Rahman, in-charge of the DMCH Police Camp, said Abul Bashar and Abdul Qaiyum fell ill inside the prison on Sunday morning. Prison authorities subsequently brought them to the hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

He said Shahadat Hossain had been admitted to Ward 502 of DMCH on August 28 and died at around 8:45am on Sunday.

The bodies were sent to the hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations.

According to prison sources, Abul Bashar was the son of Sekander Ali and hailed from Kutia village under Kachua Police Station in Chandpur. Abdul Qaiyum was from the Paduya Bazar area under Chauddagram Police Station in Cumilla. Shahadat Hossain lived in the Borobagh area of Mirpur-2 and was the son of Abdul Kader.

No immediate information was available about the cases filed against the three inmates.
