As many as 12 dengue patients died while highest in the year 2,844 were admitted to different hospitals in the country during the last 24 hours till 8 am on Wednesday.
“Among the infected people, 1,092 dengue patients were hospitalised in Dhaka city while 1,752 others were taken to different hospitals outside the capital during the period,” a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.
“This year, 352 deaths, the highest in a year since dengue was detected in 2000, were reported from dengue disease while 281 died last year,” the daily bulletin of the DGHS read.
The data showed that, the total number of patients rose to 75,069, with the new cases. Besides, about 65,290 patients were released from different hospitals this year of the total patients.
Currently, a total of 9,427 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at different hospitals. Of them, 4,421 are in the capital city while 5,006 are outside Dhaka, it showed.
Meanwhile, public health experts warned that the dengue situation may deteriorate this month and in the next month.
They suggested authorities concerned to launch a massive campaign against all types of mosquitoes across the country.
They described August and September months as the most dangerous period for breeding of Aedes mosquitoes.
The dengue fever is a mosquito-borne sickness that occurs in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Outbreaks of the disease are usually seasonal, peaking during and after the rainy season, experts added.
