The National Vitamin A Plus Campaign has set a target of administering vitamin A capsules to 564,000 children in the city. The Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) will implement the campaign across the city.
The campaign will be conducted from 8:00am to 4:00pm on June 28 through 1,321 temporary centres under the seven EPI zones covering the 41 wards of the CCC. A total of 2,658 volunteers will be engaged in the programme.
Last year, the programme achieved a success rate of 99.97 percent. This year, the CCC is working with the goal of achieving 100 percent coverage.
CCC Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain shared the information at a press conference organised on Thursday at the CCC office in Tiger Pass on the occasion of the National Vitamin A Plus Campaign 2026.
The press conference was informed that around 92,000 children aged between six and 11 months will receive one blue vitamin A capsule each, while approximately 472,000 children aged between 12 and 59 months will receive one red vitamin A capsule each.
Dr Shahadat said that, in addition to the regular centres, street children would also receive vitamin A capsules through mobile teams deployed at bus terminals, railway stations, launch ghats, and other important locations to ensure that no child is left out.
“The National Vitamin A Plus Campaign plays a vital role in preventing blindness caused by malnutrition and in strengthening children’s immunity.
We have made all-out preparations to ensure that no child in the city is deprived of this service,” he said.
The mayor also said that guardians of children who miss the campaign day will be able to obtain the capsules from the nearest EPI centre after the campaign concludes.
