BNP’s mass processions in city on Friday

Staff Reporter  :
The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalists Party (BNP) has announced to stage mass processions in the capital Dhaka on Friday after Jummah prayers as part of its one-point simultaneous movement to force the government to quit and hold the next election under a non-party caretaker government.

“We will bring out the procession as a peaceful programme. We hope the government would not make any type of obstacle to this democratic event.

The government will be held responsible for any untoward incident if it obstructs the processions,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said while announcing the fresh program at a press conference at the party’s Naya Paltan central office in the capital on Wednesday.

The BNP Secretary General sought the cooperation of the police in carrying out the processions.

Meanwhile, the party has yet to take any permission for taking out the mass processions. Mirza Fakhrul said that this program will be held without taking administrative permission.

He said BNP’s Dhaka south and north city units will bring out separate processions after Jummah prayers to press home their one-point demand.

“Other opposition parties, who have been carrying out the simultaneous movement with the BNP, will also observe similar programme from their respective positions,” Mirza Fakhrul said.
