BCL activists beat two JU freshers

JU Correspondent  :
Two freshers of Jahangirnagar University were allegedly beaten up by their two immediate seniors at university’s Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall on Saturday night.

The accused are – Faysal Maruf of Philsophy and Rakib Hasan of the Anthropology department, also activists of Bangladesh Chaatra League (BCL).

Both of them are honours second-year students and residents of Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall.

The victims are – Imran Hossain of Anthropology and Mahbubul Islam Pikul of Law and Justice Department. Both of them live in the Ganoroom of the hall.

Sources with the hall said that Maruf and Rakib called the victims. They asked them to give the list of those who want to join politics in the secretary’s group of BCL. But even after three days, he did not respond to the call.

In view of this, he was called to room 351 (1/2) on Friday afternoon and severely beaten.

Eyewitness said Maruf was seen entering the room with a rod. At that time, the sound of shouting was also heard from that room.

Later, the respective hall provost, the proctor, and his team rushed to Ganoroom and talked to the students. During this period, a number of victims claimed that they were tortured by the accused before.

A classmate of the victims who is a student of the Department of Geography and Environment said on condition of anonymity that we were all in the Ganoroom at the time of the incident.

Then Maruf kicked the door of the Ganoroom and called Imran. First, he was taken to the roof of the hall and beaten. Later, he was taken to room no. 351 (1/2) of B Block and beaten with a rod again. Also, Maruf often slaps us and throws shoes at us without any reason.

Meanwhile, a group of aggrieved students broke the entrance of Ganoroom after hearing the incident.

Maruf and Rakib denied the allegation. They said that they were not involved with such an incident. They just called them to inform them of the progress of the given task.

Hall Provost Sabbir Alam said, “We will find out the accused by checking CCTV footage and if any incident of beating really happened then we will take further steps against them.”

JU Proctor ASM Firoz-ul-Hasan said, “After hearing the incident, I came here with my team but I could not find the accused. I told the hall administration to submit a report maintaining proper procedure.”
