JL changed rally day intentionally: Fakhrul

Staff Reporter :
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday accused the ruling Awami Leagues youth body Juba League (JL) of hatching conspiracy to indulge in conflict with the BNP and to create violence by convening rally in the capital on the same day BNP is scheduled to hold their grand rally.

“The government has to shoulder the responsibility if any violence occurs on July 27 as their youth associate body Juba League has intentionally changed their prescheduled rally on the day we called our grand rally,” BNP Secretary General said this at a press conference held at its Nayapaltan central office in the capital following a joint meeting of the party.

The BNP leader urged the ruling party to reschedule their announced programme to avert any unwanted situation.

Mirza Fakhrul said, “The ways which ministers and MPs are making remarks are not decent comments. Their language is like as the terrorists. They are threatening us.

But people are confronting this time. People from all walks of life become united to defeat the autocrat regime.”

“There are many political parties out of our simultaneous movement, who are also saying that polls would not be fair under partisan government,” he said.

“We announced to hold grand rally in Dhaka to press home the demand of realising election time neutral government to hold a fair and inclusive election.”

“Through the united movement of the people, this government will be compelled to resign and arrange election under a non-partisan neutral caretaker government,” the BNP leader said.

Mirza Fakhrul said they did not announce their grand rally in the capital all of a sudden.

“All the political parties and organizations of the country have participated in the movement for the restoration of democracy for the last 14 to 15 years.

The system of election under the caretaker government was accepted by the people of the country and included in the constitution. But the government has revoked it using the court as a tool,” Mirza Fakhrul said.

“Former chief justice ABM Khairul Haque in his verdict on caretaker government system observed that two general elections might be held under caretaker government, but Awami League cancelled the provision of the caretaker government through 15th amendment of the constitution,” he said.

The BNP leader said, “In fact this government is illegal and unelected. The proof which is 2014 election where there was no voting, one-sided voting held at night before the Election Day in 2018. In the same way they have destroyed the country’s democracy, judiciary, economy, human rights, and everything.”

BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Amanullah Aman, Md Abdus Salam, Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Joint-Secretary Generals Syed Moazzem Hussain Alal, Khairul Kabir Khokon and Habibun Nabi Khan Sohel, among others, were present at the event.
