Prison guard to die for killing wife in Kishoreganj

A Kishoreganj Tribunal on Thursday noon sentence a sacked prison guard to death for killing his wife for dowry.
Mohammad Habibullah, the special Judge (District Judge) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 in Kishoreganj, handed down the sentencein the presence of the convict. The tribunal also fined the convict Taka one lakh.

The convictKhairul Islam (30), is a prison guard of Kishoreganj district Jail and aresident of Bashail village of Ghatail upazila under Tangail district.
Following the murder, he was dismissed from the service. Deceased Roma Akhter is daughter of Dubai expatriate Bangladeshi national Abdul Mannan of Manikkhali village in Katiadi upazila of Kishoreganj.

Special Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate M. A Afzol confirmed the matter.
According to the prosecution, Roma Akhter ( 22) got married to Khairul Islam in the middle of 2019.
After the marriage, Khairul lived in Kishoreganj district jail quarters with his wife. After six months of the marriage, Khairul was given Taka three lakh as dowry by her in-laws. But still Khairul was not satisfied. He demanded Tk 290,000 for buying a motorcycle. The wife expressed her inability to bring that money. Since then, Khairul often tortured Roma.

On December 22, 2020, Khairul beat and injured his wife demanding dowry. Then Khairul informed his in-laws at around 2:30 AM that Roma had fallen ill. The in-laws came and rescued Roma in a critical condition and admitted her to Kishoreganj 250-bed general hospital. From there, Roma was taken to Bhagalpur Jahurul Islam Medical College Hospital in Bajitpur. She was released from the hospital on December 26 as her condition improved somewhat after treatment. Her condition deteriorated again on December 29 and she died at 4:30 pm on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Mother of Roma filed a case in this regard on December 31 with Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station. After investigation into the incident then inspector of Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station Zainal Abedin filed a charge sheet on July 31, 2021 implicating Khairul. The court gave this verdict after hearing both the sides and examining relevant evidences.
