KUET hosts seminar on global ranking goals

KHULNA: Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Mashud speaks at a seminar titled ‘Advancing KUET Towards Global Excellence: University Ranking – Way Forward,’ held at KUET on Monday.

Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) today hosted a seminar titled “Advancing KUET Towards Global Excellence: University Ranking – Way Forward” to discuss strategies for enhancing the university’s global standing through quality education, research, and institutional development.

The seminar held at the conference room of the university’s administrative building Organised by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on Monday.

KUET Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Mashud attended the event as the chief guest. The programme was chaired by IQAC Director Prof Dr A B M Awlad Hossain, while Additional Director Prof Dr Md Rizvi Kaysar delivered the welcome address.

Speaking at the seminar, the vice-chancellor said that achieving excellence in today’s higher education landscape requires more than infrastructural development. He stressed the importance of quality teaching, impactful research, international publications, innovation, industry-academia collaboration, and efficient administrative services.

“Transforming KUET into a world-class technological university requires the collective efforts of all stakeholders. University rankings are not achieved overnight; they are the outcome of sustained, strategic, and long-term commitment,” he said.

He also underscored the need to align the university’s academic and research priorities with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and the global knowledge economy to produce skilled engineers, researchers, and innovators capable of strengthening KUET’s international reputation.

The keynote paper was presented by Prof Dr Md Mahbub Hasan, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at KUET, and Dr Mehedi Hasan (Jewel) of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Jashore University of Science and Technology.

Prof Dr Md Abu Zakir Morshed of the Department of Civil Engineering joined the session as a discussant.

The speakers highlighted key indicators used in global university rankings and discussed strategies to improve research output, international collaboration, publication quality, data management, and overall institutional performance.

The seminar was attended by deans of various faculties, institute directors, the registrar, heads of departments and offices, faculty members, and university officials.
