United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and Special Representative of the secretary-general for Disaster Risk Reduction in United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Mami Mizutori said Bangladesh is in the UN list of 30 disaster prone countries.
She said UN secretary general directed to a project for providing early massage to the 30 disaster prone countries across the world where Bangladesh remains at the top of the list.
She made the comments while briefing the journalist after a meeting with minister for planning MA Mannan on Thursday.
Responding to the newsmen query, Mami Mizutori said I came to Bangladesh to see the
structural capability to face the disaster, specially the cyclone.
She said the climate change is happening constantly. Bangladesh has responded remarkably to diminish the causality of disaster since 1970 great cyclone which is a great example to the world.
UN Assistant Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction said we are interested to help the Bangladesh to boost its capacity to manage and face the loss of disaster.
Mami Mizutori said UN is working for people of the disaster prone area; especially we are working for women empowerment in the disaster affected area.
Planning Minister MA Mannan said UN as a multination organization helps us in various sector for development. We have discussed the issues on getting early massage over cyclone, earthquake and climate change.
Minister said they are happy to our preparation and quick response to cyclone affected area’s people. They will extend the aid to boost our capacity to face the disaster.
