The health department has started a special campaign for administering the third and fourth doses of the Covid-19 vaccine across the country.
The drive, commencing on Wednesday in response to a recent uptick in Covid-19 cases across the country, will run for a week until July 11.
The announcement was made by the Directorate General of Health Services’ Expanded Program on Immunisation (EPI).
It has been taken to provide additional protection against the coronavirus for citizens aged 18 or older by offering them the third and fourth doses of the Covid-19 jabs.
Officials said that the people who have received their second or third doses at least four months prior are eligible to get vaccinated in this drive.
Frontline workers, people over 60, individuals with chronic diseases, and groups with weakened immune systems, including pregnant women have given special importance in this campaign.
Besides, unvaccinated citizens aged 18 or above who have not yet received their first or second doses are also encouraged to get vaccinated.
Children aged between 5 and 11 who have not received their first or second doses can also get their jabs at designated centres during this drive.
Citizens are encouraged to call the helpline 16263 for accurate information regarding the Covid-19 vaccinations.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh logged 86 more Covid-19 cases in the 24 hours till Wednesday morning.
With the new cases, the country’s total caseload rose to 2,042,940, according to the DGHS.
The official death toll from the virus remained unchanged at 29,462 as no new fatalities were reported.
As per the DGHS data, the daily case test positivity increased to 6.96pc from Tuesday’s 3.80pc as 1,236 samples were tested.
It showed that the death and recovery rates remained at 1.44pc and 98.37pc, respectively.
The country has witnessed a slight surge in the number of Covid-19 cases over the past few weeks.
