



A three-day nationwide celebration marking the officially declared “Nazrul Year” commenced on Thursday to commemorate the outstanding contributions of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam to Bangladesh’s national life and Bengali literature.
Organised by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the programme will continue until July 4, featuring cultural performances, discussions and literary events inspired by Nazrul’s works, revolutionary spirit and humanist ideals. The celebrations are being held simultaneously in all districts and 74 selected upazilas across the country.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman yesterday inaugurated the programme as the chief guest from the Prime Minister’s Office at the Bangladesh Secretariat through a virtual platform.
The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury, MP.
Special guests included State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmud Khayem, MP; Adviser (with the rank of State Minister) for Police and Strategy, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Dr Jahed Ur Rahman; and Cabinet Secretary Dr Nasimul Gani.
Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Khulna Hure Jannat joined the national event virtually alongside divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners from across the country.
The celebration aims to inspire people, particularly the younger generation, through Nazrul’s enduring messages of equality, justice, humanity and resistance against oppression.
Khulna District Administration said it was proud to be part of the nationwide observance, reaffirming its commitment to building a just, culturally enriched and progressive Bangladesh inspired by the ideals of the Rebel Poet
