Election under national govt demanded

Leaders and activists of Islami Andolon Bangladeh led by Charmonair Pir brought out demonstration on Friday afternoon protesting the attack on their leaders and activists during participating in BCC poll with hand-fan symbol demanded resignation of failed CEC
They also demanded speedy trial, exemplary punishment of the attackers on leaders and activists including mayoral candidate with hand-fan (Hatpakha) symbol Mufti Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim during BCC election and next general election under national government dissolving parliament.
Hundreds of followers of the Pir after Juma prayer came from far away to join the protest rally held in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall at city center stopping the traffic on city main roads from Nazir Pole, Sadar Road to Kaklir Mor for hours.
They carried effigy of the CEC calling him as Intekal Commission instead of Election Commission.
Later, after the rally, a protest procession moved on Sardar Road, Fazlul Haque Avenue, Chawkbazar, Girjamahalla in the city.
A large number of police deployed as an extra precaution on the occasion around the rally and procession at different points of the city in order to maintain law and order.
Islami Andolan Bangladesh Barishal city unit vice-president Mawlana Syed Nasir Ahmed Kawshar presided over the programme conducted by city IAB secretary Mawlana Zakaria Hamidi addressed by several leaders of IAB and front organs.
Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, Pir Saheb of Charmonai and IAB Amir(president), as chief guest of the programme said Election Commission is the constitutional institution has a vital role in the transition of power in the democratic process. But the current government is repeatedly appointing biased commissions and repeatedly organizing farce elections by deceiving the nation.
The current commission led by Qazi Habibul Awal is already presenting himself as mentally disturbed. So after informed about the injury of mayoral candidate with hand-fan (Hatpakha) symbol Mufti Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim during BCC election, the comment of CEC as “Has he passed away?”, are totally inconsistent with the duties of the Chief Election Commissioner.
Pir Saheb of Charmonai called on the CEC to resign for failing to organize fair and acceptable elections. Otherwise, the people of the country will force him to resign as the failed and incompetent CEC, he warned.
The chief guest of the programme also alleged ruling Awami League government has destroyed the election system of the country. The present ruling party is running the country like a pharaoh. So the conscious people of the country must unite to protect the country.
He said IAB did not take part in the election for money or honor, but to realizing people’s rights.
Steps should be taken to dissolve the parliament and the next national parliament election should be held under a national government.
