The Dhaka University (DU) students on Thursday blocked the Chankharpul crossing near Sheikh Hasina Burn unit over an alleged attack on four fellow students by the supporters of Ward No. 26 Councilor Manik of Dhaka South City Corporation.
The four DU students suffered in juries in the attack. The injured students are Raihan, Nipu, Sajeeb and Kausar. They are residential students of Amar Ekushey Hall of the university.

However, around 9pm, the DU students withdrawn the road blockade at the mediation of DU unit president of Bangladesh Chhatra League Mazharul Kabir Shayan and general secretary Tanvir Hasan Saikat.
Due to the blockade, a severe traffic jam was created on both sides of Dhaka Medical College, Gulistan and Mayor Hanif Flyover.

“On this evening some of our senior brothers were standing in front of our Hall. At that time, the supporters of Ward No. 26 Councilor Manik came in from the opposite direction on 10 to 15 motorcycles. When a senior student wanted to know why they came from the opposite direction they started beating them (students). Four students were injured,” Masum, a student of Amar Ekushey Hall, said. Councilor Manik was present during the incident and he displayed weapon, he claimed.

He also said that at one stage of the beating, Manik’s supporters came to the Chankharpul intersection and took sticks from the traffic police and beat the students again. Some of our elder brothers were injured in the attack. Two of them have been taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
