Sonargaon University wins three national medals in Fibonacci Olympiad
Students of Sonargaon University have once again achieved success in the international competition based on science, technology and robotics.
Three teams of Sonargaon University’s ‘SU Innovation Hub‘ have won a total of three national medals, including one silver and two bronze, in the Bangladesh National Round of the Fibonacci International Robot & STEM Olympiad 2026, organized with the participation of more than 30 countries around the world. In this competition held at United International University (UIU), the Sonargaon University teams achieved this success by competing with participants from 58 public and private universities of the country. At the same time, the competition has created an opportunity to qualify for the World Championship to be held in Rome, Italy.
Among the teams that achieved success in the competition— 1. ‘StingRay Hunter-X’ won the silver medal in the Blue Entrepreneurship category. The team won this medal by showcasing the ‘Autonomous Underwater Robot With River Recovery & Rescue System’ project with automatic search, rescue and recovery capabilities under water. The team members are—Md. Junaid Ahmed (CE), Arafat Uz Zaman (ME), Ehsan Sajid (ME) and Rafsan Rahat (ME). 2. ‘SU Astro Nova’ team won the bronze medal in the Robotic Entrepreneurship category. The team presented the ‘Remote Autonomous Mine Detection & Defusion Robot Version 2’ project with the ability to detect and deactivate landmines remotely and automatically, focusing on military and security systems. The team members are—Akram F. Moni (ME), Rezaul Karim (ME), Fazle Rabbi (CE) and Arman (EEE). 3. ‘Robo Vend PRS’ team won the bronze medal in the Greentech Entrepreneurship category. The team presented the ‘Reverse Vending System’ project as an effective solution to reduce plastic pollution and produce raw materials for the 3D printing industry. The team members are Arifuzzaman Hridoy (EEE), Khushi Akhter (BBA), Tanna Akhter (CSE), Noor Afridi Chowdhury (CE) and Tausif Ahmed (EEE).
Under the management of ‘SU Innovation Hub’, in the last one year, Sonargaon University students have become champions and runners-up in more than 20 national and international technology competitions and have won the ‘Best Club’ award multiple times. Currently, the university’s ‘SU Innovation Hub’ has a total of five robots made with its own technology, including an underwater rescue robot and a fire fighting robot. In addition, the SU Mars Rover team is preparing to unveil a new version of their Mars Rover. Through research and innovation-focused activities, ‘SU Innovation Hub’ is playing an important role in the students’ practice of technology and robotics.
The captain of the ‘SU Innovation Hub’ activities is Md. Rais Uddin Molla, Head and Assistant Professor of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of Sonargaon University. The research and development activities are led by Nuruzzaman Rakib, Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The moderator is Dr. H. B. Muhammad Zukaul Islam, Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Department of Basic Science.
