Mango export project eyes bright future
News Desk :
The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has taken an initiative to boost mango export by modernising the production of the popular fruit under a project.
The ‘Exportable Mango Production Project’ is now being implemented in Chapainawabganj district, reports the media.
A big portion of mangoes are wasted every year due to non-use of modern agricultural technology at transportation, storage, marketing and production stages. But the mango producers in Chapainawabganj district this year are seeing a good future due to the new project.
Every year, the farmers used to incur losses because they could not export mangoes. However, due to the government project, they are ready to export their improved quality mangoes.
According to DAE sources, the project is being implemented in mango producing districts including Chapainawabganj. A total of 201 farmers in the district have produced exportable quality mangoes.
By producing exportable mangoes will push up the total production by five per cent and create employment opportunities and increase export earnings, experts said.
Officials said they look to increase production of high quality mangoes in the project area and boost their exports which are expected to develop a value chain system in the marketing of the products and bring financial benefits to the farmers.
According to the officials, mangoes are a great boon of nature for Bangladesh in diversifying exports and increasing foreign exchange earnings. Bangladeshi mangoes have considerable reputation and demand in various European countries including the UK.
