Chaos erupts at AL rally in Dhaka

News Desk :
Disarray broke out at a rally commemorating the historic Six Points Day, hosted by the Dhaka South unit of the Awami League (AL), in front of its central office at Bangabandhu Avenue on Thursday afternoon.

The chaos, marked by the tossing of chairs twice during the event, was only brought under control following interventions by the central leadership and metropolitan authorities.

The first instance of tumul occurred around 3:45pm, shortly after Dhaka South City Awami League acting president Nurul Amin Ruhul, began his speech.

A second incident happened 30 minutes later, again leading to chair tossing.

This caused panic among activists, some of whom also started scurrying around, resulting in several injuries, including to journalists.
In response, speeches were halted, slogans were chanted and warnings were given telling everyone to calm down.

An announcement was made on the stage suggesting that infiltrators from BNP-Jamaat could have entered the rally to cause disorder and that everyone should remain vigilant to prevent such incidents.

Many attendees alleged that the chaos occurred between supporters of the Awami League’s presidium member and Dhaka 2 lawmaker Advocate Md Qamrul Islam, and Keraniganj Upazila Chairman Shahin Ahmed, who wants to contest the next election from that very constituency.

Awami League Dhaka South President Abu Ahmed Mannafi and General Secretary Humayun Kabir appealed to everyone present to maintain order.

Awami League presidium members Md Qamrul Islam and Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, and Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif also made speeches, urging everyone to maintain order. Moreover, the Dhaka South unit, leaders and activists of associate bodies, including Jubo League, Chhatra League, Mohila Awami League and Swechchhasebak League, also attended the rally.
