12 JU freshers tortured by seniors

Twelve freshers of the Zoology Department of Jahangirnagar University (JU) were allegedly ragged by immediate seniors on Sunday night.
A complaint was lodged immediately with the university Proctor in this regard. Proctor ASM Firoz-ul-Hasan confirmed the complaint.
The accused are – A. B. M Abdullah Al Kafi, Md. Tanvir Islam, Nur Islam, Chiranjit Mondal, Md. Abdus Sobur, Mithun Roy, Ahmad Ezazul Hassan Arif, Prince Kumar Roy, Md. Zobaeid Hassan Sizan and Khondoker Muaz Islam. All of them are second-year students of the Zoology Department.

According to the complaint, the accused asked the victims to be present in the Sydney field adjacent to Bangabandhu

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall. They mentally and physically tortured the victims for more than one and a half hours. The victims were ordered to show different types of inappropriate gestures, such as becoming like a chair. The accused used abusive language in the name of teaching manners. One of the accused threw shoes towards the victims for not givingsalute.
A B M Abdullah Al Kafi, one of the accused, was held by the proctorial body on the spot. Confessing the matter, Kafi said, “They were ragged by our batch mates. I was present there but I did not participate.”

JU Proctor ASM Firoz-ul-Hasan said, “Two of proctorial body members immediately rushed to the spot. We received a complaint and served show cause notices to the accused to respond within seven working days. Further action will be taken as per the existing rules of the university.”
