55 hurt over mosque committee clash , Imam appointment

At least.55 people were injured, many houses vandalised in two separate incidents centered around the formation of a new committee and the appointment of an imam in Mosque of Bhairab in Kishoreganj last two days
On Saturday clashes took place at Kalikaprasad and
Nabipur area of Aganagar Union in Bhairab upazila after Friday prayers.
Several houses were vandalized due to this incident.
Among the injured, 27 people have received treatment at Bhairab government hospital and 10 people were admitted to the health center for treatment. Two seriously injured have been sent to Kishoreganj 250 bed General Hospital and one to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The locals and police sources, Kalikaprasad Khan Bari Jame Masjid was built many years ago at the place of the Khan Bari clan of the area. Since 2019, Kabir Khan of the Khan family has been serving as the president of the mosque. When the term of the committee was over, he was re-chaired by the local people a few days ago. But Kauchar along with opponent Murad Khan, Alauddin Mia Gongra prevented Kabir Khan from re-assigning the presidency.
On the other hand, there was a clash between the Nasb Ali and Babira clans of the area over the appointment of the Imam of the Nabipura mosque in the Aganagar union of Bhairab .
Moulona Md. Awal was appointed by the Imam of the mosque. But the people of Babira’s house are not willing to accept his appointment. The two sides clashed after Friday prayers.
Chairman of Kalikaprasad Union Parishad ( UP) Liton Mia said that when two parties clashed over the position of mosque committee president, the police came and calmed down the situation. Several people were injured in the clash. Some houses were vandalized and looted. The incident is sad. The Officer-in-Charge (OC) in Bhairab Model Police Station, Mohammad Makchudul Alam said, two incidents are related to religious issues.
