JnU student sent to Jail for forgery

A Jagannath University student was sent to jail on Saturday allegedly for forging the signatures of the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Dean of Faculty of Arts and Chairman of Islamic Studies Department to change department.

The accused Sajib Ahmed is a student of Islamic Studies Department of the University.

After remand on Saturday (May 27), the police produced him before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehdi Hasan . After that, the investigation officer (IO) of the case, Sub-Inspector Hasan Matubbar of Kotwali Police Station requested to keep him in jail.

In view of the application, judge Mehdi Hasan ordered to send him to jail. Earlier, on May 25, the court granted his one-day remand.

According to the complaint, on February 23, accused Sajib Ahmed applied for migration from Islamic Studies to other general subjects.

In the application, he forged the seal and signature of the chairman of the department of Islamic studies, the vice-chancellor and registrar of Jagannath University.

The Dean’s Office found the signature of the Vice-Chancellor suspicious when the application was scrutinized. After that the accused Sajib was directed to appear in the Dean’s office.

Last May 24, Sajib appeared and admitted the signature forgery. He was then handed over to Kotwali police station.
Saidur Rahman, security officer of the university, filed a case with the Kotwali police station as a plaintiff in this incident.
