2 workers electrocuted, 11 men sick in Bhangura

Two people were died due to lightning in Bhangura upazila of Pabna. In this incident, 11 more people fell ill and are admitted to Bhangura Upazila Health Complex of Pabna. The dead’s name is Shakeel Hossain (19), father Shahid Ali and Ramiz Uddin (30), father Monir Hossain. Both of them are residents of Chaikolo village in neighboring Chatmohar upazila of pabna. Among the sick, Rafiqul Islam, Shilpi Khatun, Kadbhanu Khatun, Sher Mahmud, Sohel Rana and Palash Hossain are all residents of that Chaikola village.
The incident occurred on Tuesday (May 23) afternoon in the Baonjan Eri-Boro project area of Dilpashar Union of Bhangura Upazila. All the dead and sick persons are paddy cutting workers. There are some women workers with them.
Local people said that the workers were harvesting paddy in the field on Tuesday afternoon. When the storm started suddenly, the workers took shelter in a room of Boro project scheme. Just then there was a few lightning strikes. A thunderbolt struck the room, killing two workers on the spot. The rest became seriously ill. Local people rescued them and admitted them to Bhangura Health Complex.
Dr Asif, Resident Medical Officer of Bhangura Health said two people had died in the lightning strike and some were in critical condition.
Dilpasha UP Chairman Md. Abdul Hannan confirmed the truth of the incident and said that most of these workers were poor and came from other areas for work.
