HC stays Dhaka Club EGM for three months

The High Court has stayed for three months the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) of Dhaka Club Limited. The High Court Bench of Justice Khizir Ahmed Choudhury passed the order on Thursday last after hearing a petition.
The meeting was supposed to be held on May 20 this year.
Earlier on April 29, a notice was issued regarding holding the meeting on May 20. Challenging the legality of the notice club member and also Amber Group Chairman Showkat Aziz filed a petition with the High Court under company act.
Lawyers Sayed Ahmed and Kazi Akhter Hossain appeared in the court hearing on behalf of Showkat Aziz.
The respondents are also directed to show cause within seven days due to arbitrary application of Article 34 of the ‘Memorandum and Articles of Association’.
