UNB :
A convict who was awarded life-term jail sentence some 34 years ago for killing his uncle in the port city of Chattogram has been arrested.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-7 arrested the convict Bashir Ahmed from Muslim Para under Sadar Police Station in Rangamati district on Thursday night.
The 55-year-old Bashir is the son of Noor Ahmed, of Charia area under Hathazari Police Station.

Later, slain Makbul Hossain’s wife filed a murder case with Hathazari Police Station against seven to eight persons making Bashir as the prime accused.

He further said on November 19, 1992, a court issued arrest warrant against prime accused Bashir Ahmed awarding him life-term jail sentence in his absence.
Acting on a trip-off, RAB-7 arrested Bashir conducting a raid in Rangamati.
He was handed over to Hathazari Police Station.

3-yr-old sold for Tk 2 lakh, rescued after being abducted News Desk
Rab on Friday said its members had rescued a three-year-old boy in Gopalganj on Thursday, more than three weeks after he was abducted from near his home in the capital and subsequently “sold” for Tk 2 lakh in a deal struck on Facebook.

The law enforcers also arrested five people, including the abductor, Pijus Kanti Paul, 29, and Sujan Sutar, the man who “bought” the toddler.
The three other arrestees are: Pijus’s wife Riddhita Paul, 25, Pallav Kanti Biswas, 52 and his wife Baby Sarker, 46.

In a press briefing at the Rab media centre today, Rab-2 Commanding Officer Anwar Hossain Khan said that on April 26, Pijus lured the child with chocolates and abducted him from near his home in Dhaka Udyan. The boy was playing with his elder sister and other playmates at the time he was kidnapped.
His sister went home and told their mother about the incident, and the family later lodged a case with Mohammadpur Police Station.

The Rab CO said they analysed the CCTV footage and by collecting other evidence, tracked the perpetrators of the crime. They first arrested Sujan from Shahbagh and then rescued the baby from Pallav’s house in Gopalganj, and handed the child back to his family on Friday.
The Rab members then arrested Pijus and his wife from Savar, Rab said.

The Rab CO said Pijus used to work at a spa centre while studying for his MBA and became familiar with Riddhita. They later got married in 2022.
The couple was involved in human trafficking since then and Pijus was arrested in a human trafficking case filed with Banani Police Station in 2022. He had later gotten out on bail.
Pijus and his wife had been advertising that they provide adoption services on a Facebook group.
The CO said that Sujan had uploaded a post on the group saying that he wanted to adopt a baby. Then, on April 21, Riddhita sent him a picture of her own son, saying he is the child of her domestic worker who wanted to put her baby up for adoption for Tk 2 lakh.

During interrogation, Sujan told Rab that he bought the baby from the couple for Tk 2 lakh as his close relative Pallav and his wife Baby had been looking to adopt a baby.
