Govt to buy 2.30 lakh tonnes fertiliser, 12,500 MT sugar

The government has decided to procure 2.30 lakh tonnes of fertliser and 12,500 tonnes of sugar both from local and international markets to meet the domestic demand.
The approval came from the Wednesday’s meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) held virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.
The CCGP has approved seven separate proposals from the meeting.
Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) under the Ministry of Agriculture placed four separate proposals before the CCGP.
Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division Sayeed Mahbub Khan, who briefed reporters after the Cabinet body meeting, said while approving the proposal the issue of the Prime Minister’s instruction not to import any goods from any country which imposed sanctions on Bangladesh was not discussed in the meeting.
However, the committee has decided to import 12,500 tonnes of sugar from the USA.
According to Sayeed Mahbub Khan, the committee approved a proposal of the BADC to import 40,000 tonnes of DAP fertiliser from MA’ADEN, Saudi Arabia with around Tk 229.33 crore, while the CCGP also approved another proposal to import 30,000 tonnes of TSP fertiliser from OCP, S.A, Morocco with around Tk 126.57 crore.
The BADC has also get approval to import 40,000 tonnes of DAP fertiliser from OCP, SA, Morocco with around Tk 233.42 crore, he said adding that the committee has also approved another proposal of the BADC to import 50,000 tonnes of MPO fertiliser from Canadian Commercial Corporation with around Tk 225.23 crore.
Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) under the Ministry of Industries received approval from the CCGP to procure some 10,000 tonnes of Phosphoric acid fertiliser from M/s Sun International FZE, UAE (Local Agent: M/s Agro Industrial Inputs, Dhaka) for Tk 60.95 crore, he added. The fertiliser will be procured for the Chattogram TSP Complex Limited.
Sayeed Mahbub Khan also said that the meeting approved another proposal of the BCIC to procure some 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertiliser from the Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited with around Tk 120.03 crore and it will also procure another 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertiliser from SABIC Agri-nutrients Company, Saudi Arabia under the 22nd lot with around Tk 106.25 crore.
According to a proposal, which approved by the CCGP, of the state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) under the Ministry of Commerce will import the 12,500 tonnes of sugar from Accentuate Technology Inc, USA (Local Agent: OMC Ltd, Dhaka) through an international open tender system at a total cost of Tk 66.27 crore with per kilogram (kg) cost at Tk 82.85, he said.
The Additional secretary also said that the CCGP approved a proposal of the Local Government Division to extend the cost of the consultant by Tk 11.1 crore for its project “Water Supply and Sanitation in 23 Municipalities of Bangladesh (1st Revised)” being implemented by the Department of Public Health Engineering.
Joint Venture of (1) Ranhill, (2) Farhat and (3) DDC had been appointed as consultants for the project.
