Ten men Sheikh Russel reach Fed Cup semi-final

The semi-finals line up of Bashundhara Group Federation Cup Football has been settled as ten men Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra confirmed their spot of semi-final beating last year’s runners-up Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society by a solitary goal in the fourth quarter-final match at on Tuesday.

Sheikh Russel will now play the second semi-final match against defending champions Dhaka Abahani Limited scheduled to be held on May 16 at Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla, following the first semi-final match between Bashundhara Kings and Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited to be held on May 9 at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium in Gopalganj.

Held at Bir Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj, Nigerian forward Kenneth Ikechukwu scored the all-important goal for Sheikh Russel early in the 14th minute of the match and they maintained the lead till the final whistle.

Abid Ahmed of Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra was shown red card by the referee following his double yellow cards.

Earlier, Bashundhara Kings beat Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra by 3-1 goals in the first quarter-final, Dhaka Abahani Limited edged past Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by 1-0 goal in the second quarter-final and Mohammedan Sporting Club defeated Chittagong Abahani Limited by 4-1 goals in the third quarter-final.
The final of the Federation Cup will be held on May 30 at Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla.
