24 pro-BNP lawyers get anticipatory bail

The High Court on Monday granted anticipatory bail to 24 pro-BNP lawyers for 12 weeks ina case filed on charges of attempt to murder and vandalising furniture at an iftar mahfil organised by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on April 6.
The HC also asked the accused lawyers to
surrender before the lower court concerned in 12 weeks in connection with the case.
The HC bench of Justice Md Iqbal Kabir and Justice AKM Rabiul Hasan passed the order following a bail petition filed by the 24 lawyers.
Former Secretaries of the SCBA Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokan and Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal, Barrister Kayser Kamal, Advocate Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal, Advocate Shah Ahmed Badol, Barrister AKM Ehsanur Rahman, Advocate Jamiul Hoque Faisal, among others, who secured the bail from the HC.
Earlier in the day, the accused petitioners appeared before the HC bench seeking bail.
Senior lawyer AJ Mohammad Ali appeared for the petitioners during the hearing of the petition.
Md Robiul Hassan, Administrative Officer of SCBA, lodged the case on Sunday with Shahbagh Police Station in Dhaka against 50 to 60 persons including these 24 pro-BNP lawyers.
Pro-Awami League and pro-BNP lawyers of the Supreme Court Bar Association engaged into an altercation during the Iftar party of the organisation on April 6. Both the camps of the lawyers alleged each other for vandalising the hall rooms of the SCBA, where the Iftar parties were arranged.
