Scuffle during SCBA Iftar: Case filed against 24 pro-BNP lawyers

A criminal case was filed on Sunday against 50 to 60 people including 24 pro-BNP lawyers in connection with a scuffle between ruling Awami League-backed lawyers and pro-BNP lawyers at the hall rooms of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on April 6.
AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal, who were the candidates for the posts of president and secretary in the SCBA election held on March 15 and 16 from pro-BNP lawyers’ panel, are among the accused in the case.
Md Robiul Hassan, administrative officer of SCBA, filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station in the capital.
In accordance with the case statement, the accused attacked, threatened and attempted to kill lawyers and vandalised furniture at the iftar programme.
They, along with some outsiders, entered two hall rooms where an iftar programme was organised by the SCBA on Thursday. They were chanting slogans, tore apart the banners, vandalised the chairs and tables and created a chaotic situation.
The accused also attacked and injured some lawyers when they tried to prevent the vandalism, reads the case statement.
Contacted, Deputy Commissioner of Ramna Division Police Md Shahidullah told the media that a case was filed against 24 pro-BNP lawyers and others for carrying out the attack. An investigation is going on, he added.
