Staff Reporter :
The Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Oikya Parishad on Saturday demanded to the government for the suspension of the Digital Security Act (DSA) and called for appropriate amendment of the controversial law.
The Oikya Parishad in a press release made the demand during its Executive Committee meeting at its central office in city’s Paltan area.
“The Executive Committee meeting held on Saturday. During the meeting, leaders of the Parishad demanded the suspension of the DSA,” it read.
The meeting was presided over by the Oikya Parishad President and former Member of Parliament Ushaton Talukdar.
The organisation also protested against and condemned the repeated misuse of the DSA that triggered untold harassment and miseries to the religious and ethnic minority groups.
The Parishad strongly emphasised to suspend the DSA until a time-befitting amendment, it added.
Amid the countrywide ongoing protest against the DSA for the recent arrest of a journalist of Daily Prothom Alo under the Act, the Oikya Parishad came up with their demand for the suspension of the DSA.
