Tigers seal T20I series against Ireland

An all-round performance by Shakib Al Hasan and a masterclass half-century by Liton Das powered Bangladesh to wrap up Twenty20 International (T20I) series 2-0 ( remaining with one game) against Ireland after defeating the tourists by 77 runs in the second T20I match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Wednesday.
Shakib grabbed five wickets in the space of 22 runs and remained unbeaten with 38 runs. He hit two sixes and three fours in his 24-ball knock. The left-arm all-rounder is now the highest wickettaker in T20I cricket. He captured 136 wickets playing 114 T20I matches.
Liton hammered a hurricane 83. His 41-ball innings saw 10 fours and three sixes.
Sent into bat first, Bangladesh piled up a mammoth total of 202 for the loss of three wickets in the allotted 17 overs (three overs were curtailed due to rain) and restricted Ireland to 125 for the loss of nine wickets in 17 overs.
Bangladesh had a formidable start as the two openers Liton Das and Rony Talukdar put on together 124 before Rony was caught at the long-on by Mark Adair off Ben White.
Rony struck a windy 44. His 23-ball knock had three fours and two sixes. After Rony’s dismissal, Liton was caught behind by wicketkeeper Lorcan Tucker off White when the hosts’ score was 138 for the loss of two wickets.
After Liton’s departure, Shakib Al Hasan and Towhid Hridoy built a worthy partnership. They scored together 61 runs in the third wicket stand before Hridoy was dismissed by Mark Adair when the Tigers’ total was 199 for the loss of three wickets.
Hridoy made 24 from 13 balls featuring three fours and a sixer.
White is his team’s most successful bowler with two wickets at the cost of 28 runs.
Later, Curtis Camher of Ireland is the only batter who fought back against the tight, controlled and superb bowling attack of Bangladesh bowlers.
Pacer Taskin Ahmed retained his consistency claiming three wickets giving 27 runs.
Promising pacer Hasan Mahmud took one wicket for six runs. Campher hit an exact 50. He hit three sixes and three fours in his 30-ball knock before he was bowled out by Taskin Ahmed.
