Death in custody RAB forms probe body over Jasmine’s death

An investigation is underway and an inquiry committee has already been formed into the case of a woman detained in Naogaon RAB custody who died while undergoing treatment.
RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Commander Khandaker Al Moin said this in a press conference organized at RAB Media Center in capital’s Karwan Bazar on Tuesday (March 28) noon.
Commander Al Moin said that the elite force has formed a probe body over the death of an employee of a Naogaon union land office who was accused in a case under the Digital Security Act.
Departmental actions will be taken, if any RAB member is found guilty. In primary investigation, it is found that she used to cheat people in the name of giving jobs, Rab officials said.
In this issue, when contacted, family members declined to tell anything about Jesmine’s death. Talks and criticisms have been going on over the social media platforms across the country including Naogaon following the incident.
Following the death of Sultana Jesmine, her son Shahed Hossain Saikat told the media that his mother was a victim of conspiracy. “RAB inflicted brutal and inhuman torture on her in their custody, and she died because of it”.
Meanwhile, the post-mortem report of Sultana Jesmine, who died in RAB custody has been submitted to the High Court.
The report was first submitted to the office of Attorney General and then to the High Court. The report states that the 45-year-old Jesmine died of excessive haemorrhage in brain.
The report first reached the Attorney General’s office and a hearing on the report was held on Tuesday at the High Court bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Ahmed Sohel.
Earlier, Sultana Jasmine died in the custody of Rab-5 after suffering haemorrhages of the brain. Her family alleged that she died due to torture in Rab custody.
Rab picked up Sultana around 10:00am on Wednesday (March 22) when she was on her way to Chandipur Union Land Office. She died at 10:00am on Friday (March 24) at the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).
A day after her detention, she was sued under DSA in Rajshahi ‘for syphoning off money from job seekers using a Facebook accounts.
